These are the books that I've read on Digital Marketing that I consider essential reading.

  • Don't Make Me Think, Steve Krug. This book is insanely helpful. Krug has a way of making seemingly complex topics super simple and easy to understand. He's a User Experience designer and that's the focus of the book, but it's essential that every Digital Marketer understand and consider the topics in his book.
  • Permission Marketing, Seth Godin. This is a classic. Godin lays out his theory of permission marketing and explains why Email is and will always be such a power marketing tool.
  • YOUtility: Why Smart Marketing is About Help Not Hype, Jay Baer
  • Epic Content Marketing, Joe Pulizzi

http://www.ted.com Seth Godin argues the Internet has ended mass marketing and revived a human social unit from the distant past: tribes. Founded on shared ideas and values, tribes give ordinary people the power to lead and make big change. He urges us to do so.

http://www.ted.com Customers want to feel what they buy is authentic, but "Mass Customization" author Joseph Pine says selling authenticity is tough because, well, there's no such thing. He talks about a few experiences that may be artificial but make millions anyway.

http://www.ted.com In a funny, rapid-fire 4 minutes, Alexis Ohanian of Reddit tells the real-life fable of one humpback whale's rise to Web stardom. The lesson of Mister Splashy Pants is a shoo-in classic for meme-makers and marketers in the Facebook age.
